About the Role
The Senior Accountant position will lead the accounting and reporting functions for several Development and Operating Projects. This role also administers various legal agreements (including Loan Agreement, Partnership Agreement, Development Management Agreement,Property Management Agreement) and maintains a strong relationship with everyone involved on the Project. This role will be heavily involved in the implementation of new processes and procedures and helping to train/mentor staff accountants. The ability to adapt and pivot in a fast paced, growth-oriented company is an important skill.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Month-end Close and Reporting : Including preparation and review of journal entries,account reconciliations, and financial reporting packages. General knowledge of the different accounting standards is needed (GAAP, IFRS, Tax, and Cash).
- Development Properties:Set up new development projects, monitor and communicate project budget and actual costs, prepare and review monthly draws, lead the draw process.
- Operational Properties: Help transition projects from development to operations or set up acquired properties, financial reporting, strong knowledge on lease accounting and operating expense reconciliations,budgets and variances.
- Treasury: Ensure funding is received and invoices processed timely, assist with cash flow projections, assist with draws/capital calls/deposits/acquisitions/distributions.
- Corporate Reporting: Investment reporting, consolidations, billbacks, liquidity needs, acquisition/dispositions
- Projects: Assist with ad hoc projects (such as accounting system implementation, new process implementation)
- Training: Assist in supervision and training/development of Staff Accountants.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in commercial real estate accounting (property management and/or development)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited university; CPA preferred
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel; applicable experience in real estate accounting software packages, preferably with MRI and/or Yardi
- Demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills with a high attention to detail
- Ability to handle a dynamic work environment with competing priorities

- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Communicate effectively with clients,internal and external auditors, tax preparers and team members as required
- Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to internal and external customers
